moments of grace

just over the past few weeks when i have been home, i have experienced many moments filled with grace; gifts from God that i know i do not deserve.

lunch with an old friend, holding a baby and knowing that all things are possible, sharing a delicious meal with my family (something i used to take for granted before i moved away)...moments of forgiveness, birth, rebirth, change, being called, giving of yourself, receiving others' true selves, witnessing miracles great and small...

i am sure that we experience these much more often than we even realize.  even the most seemingly ordinary of days, moments, lives...is actually extraordinary if we really look, listen, and feel with depth and care.

i was reading my buddy buechner again this morning and his reflection for today (new year's day) says to "listen to your life.  See it for the fathomless mystery that it is.  In the boredom and pain of it no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace."
